Planning days and A- Z of learning and development

Back to work and planning for 2021?

It’s been a turbulent year for us all, and it looks like much of the confusion and uncertainty we’ve faced in 2020 will continue into the coming year. For learning & HR professionals like you, it’s the perfect time to take stock of your L&D capability for 2021 and make sure you and your team are positioned to add as much value to the organization as possible in the year ahead.

Just like Rome, effective  HR & L&D  teams aren’t built in a day. For many teams, January is a time of planning and upskilling.

In your next team’s planning session, revisit foundation practices and knowledge via this activity. Look at them through a different lens.

Targeted activities and icebreakers a great way to engage your team, but for goodness sake, stop using  ‘3 Truths and a lie’ icebreaker. There are so many other ways to break the ice and get the team talking. If you are struggling for ideas – head on over to our sign up page and download our free icebreakers ebook.

Activity to get the team thinking

Take a simple approach such as the A-Z of skills, your business, knowledge and allocate a keyword associated with each letter of the alphabet. Depending on the group size, you could break up the alphabet and allocate letters to each team.  You could use butchers paper, or if conducting this remotely, have the team create a PowerPoint slide for each letter.

Each team should also be able to explain why this word was chosen, and how it relates to the team/workplace or theory.

Debrief as a group, you can even ask the group for other options for letters allocated.

If your team has completed this activity using PowerPoint, consider turning the PPT into a video using the ‘save as’ function.  Send it out to your stakeholders and share the activity instructions so other departments or teams can benefit from the process.  This creates a win/win scenario of promoting your team and capability and offering value via sharing activities with others.

To get you started we have created a video of the A-Z of training.  We hope you enjoy it! Feel free to use it as another way to compare to the team alphabet that your team created.

Whilst you are reflecting on the year that was 2020, why not celebrate your successes by entering Facilitated Training Awards? Entry closes on the 26th February.

About Facilitated Training.

Learning and Development should not get in the way of business. It should help business excel. That’s what we believe at Facilitated Training. And if that means doing things differently, then so be it.

Our mission is to help organisations thrive through quality, editable professional development training materials and resources. We are not like other training companies; we won’t charge you for every minute of courseware development. Instead, our fixed-priced product ensures you have unlimited access to customisable training materials and our easy-to-understand facilitator guides.

We keep things simple. It is about making things easier, saving you time, removing barriers, and giving you the freedom to do what you love. We want to build a relationship and create a beneficial partnership that goes beyond the menial day-to-day tasks and helps you identify commercial challenges and opportunities.

Facilitated Training can assist your business with everything from leadership training, customer service and other soft skills training, to short courses, lunch and learn materials, reference guides, templates, and more.

If you’ve reached an inflexion point and are starting to scale, using any old generic training, or death by PowerPoint presentations just won’t cut it anymore. We are ready to work with you, to educate and coach you and your team, so that you don’t need us ever again – all for a fraction of the price consultants and instructional designers.

Leaving the creation of training materials to us reduces risks and gives you more time to dedicate to what matters – the people.
